Vasily Lomachenko, Olympic gold-medal-winning boxer, joins the Ukrainian Protection Battalion

Thought-about by many to be the most effective boxers on this planet, Vasily Lomachenko is claimed to have joined a regional protection battalion in Ukraine within the midst of the Russian invasion.

Lomachenko, who was stated to have traveled to Greece when the assault started on Thursday, was seen in a photograph in navy fatigues. ESPN’s Mike Coppinger experiences that the two-time Olympic gold medalist boxer not too long ago returned to his house close to Odessa to be together with his household.

Lomachenko is not the only boxer who took up arms in defense of Ukraine. Hall of Famer Vitali Klitschko, who is now the mayor of Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, recently announced that he would help defend his country. His brother, fellow Hall of Famer and former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko also enlisted in the country’s Reserve Army earlier this month.

“I have no other choice,” said Vitaly. Good morning Britain. “I have to do this.”

Nikolai Kovalchuk, President of WBC Ukraine, expressed how proud he was of the boxers who selected to defend the nation.

“We’re very pleased with our boxers, our true champions in boxing and champions of this battle,” stated Kovalchuk, in Coppinger. “We’re proud to be Ukrainians.”

Earlier in February, Lomachenko agreed to face the undisputed light-weight champion George Camposos in Australia on June 5. The previous champion, Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KO) has racked up consecutive wins since dropping to Tiofemo. Lopez determined in October 2020. The 34-year-old underwent surgical procedure to restore a torn rotator cuff.
